Sally Anne Royle Hardy
December 24, 1938 - February 15, 2022
Sally Anne Royle Hardy, 83, passed away peacefully in the early morning of February 15th in the care of the VITAS Hospice Center in Philadelphia, PA. She will be missed by her friends and family who will remember her always as outrageously beautiful and stylish, bitingly funny, fiercely loyal and extremely generous. Sally Anne Royle was born, much to her dismay, on Christmas Eve - December 24th, 1938 - in Philadelphia, PA to Sarah [Hodson] Royle and George Royle III. She was the eldest of two children, and her brother George Royle IV predeceased her in 2016. She graduated from Abington High School and went on to St. Mary’s Junior College in Raleigh, North Carolina where she was known as a devilish and vivacious Yankee once quoted as saying “I’m not going to sing Dixie.” Her marriage to Paul D. Hardy in the early 1960s ended in divorce. Sally was at heart a true Philadelphian, working in Special Events for the City Managing Director’s Office, followed by nearly 25 years at the Office of Emergency Management and a few more years after that with the Southeast Pennsylvania Emergency Management Task Force. Everywhere she went, Sally made friends with whom she would stay in touch her whole life, and they loved her dearly. She is survived by her sister-in-law, two nieces, two nephews, two grandnephews and many godchildren. A private memorial in celebration of her life will be held in the spring. Donations in her memory may be made to The Salvation Army, Greater Philadelphia Area.
